HANDY TIPS… for customers packing themselves:
Our removal representative can give you a good idea of what type of packing materials you are likely to need and most importantly how much you will need. There is nothing worse than the night before you’re due to move you realise that you are 20 boxes short and you ran out of tape and bubble wrap over an hour ago!
Moving is a stressful enough experience so being prepared can only work to your advantage. You should ensure that all china, glassware, books, CD’s, toys etc, and any other loose household items requiring packing be packed before the arrival of our removal vehicle . We find there is more chance of damage to goods that have been packed in a rush, and unfortunately owner packed boxes are not covered on our insurance.
All of our boxes come flat packed so that they take up the minimum of space prior to use. We recommend that you tape along the bottom of the box then also use a couple of strips in the opposite direction for maximum strength. Fragile goods should be either wrapped in paper or bubble wrap with newspaper filling any gaps inside the box.
A lot of the time we’re asked how much can I put into the boxes? A good rule of thumb is if you can lift the box then we can too. We advise around the 20kg weight mark, which we think is a safe limit for one person to carry on their own. Books, DVD’s, records, tools etc tend to be heavier so we can supply you with boxes for this specific use.
Labelling all your boxes with the contents and from which room they came will be a great time saver at your new property, not only for our removals crew, who will make sure all the boxes will be put into their correct rooms but also for when you start to unpack your goods.
We will supply you with hanging wardrobe boxes for your clothes free of charge. We will bring these out on the moving day and we need to take them away at the end of the day. If you think you need to keep them, then you will be charged for them.
We advise that chests of drawers containing soft clothing may be left as they are. However, any heavy or fragile goods in drawers will need to be packed separately. Bed linen and towels from cupboards or shelves etc can be packed into black sacks and labeled.
When you have finished unpacking your boxes we are more than happy to collect any of the boxes we supplied you with for recycling.
