As a removal company we know understanding the Insurance for House Removals can be pretty confusing. When moving all your worldly possessions it is extremely important to have the correct insurance cover in place – whether just moving around the corner, to the other end of the country, or overseas.
Check that your removal company are fully insured; they should happily show you copies of their policy details. All of the removal companies registered to the BAR have the relevant removals insurance in place. The Insurance company we use only specialise in Removals Insurance, here in the UK and Overseas. So when you get your quote from us, you can have the peace of mind that your belongings will be covered during transit.

If you don’t have a written contract with your removal company you are putting yourself at high risk in the event things don’t go to plan, insist on a written agreement or find another mover. All BAR members must provide a written contract as standard.
Some removal companies do charge extra for their insurance, whereas ours is already included in our move costs, for up to £25,000 per removal lorry. We can easily extend this at a small additional charge.
However, many home insurance policies will cover accidental damage or loss if you are using a professional removals company. As with any insurance, including ours, there is often a time limit applied to your claim, so again, read the small print so that you can make any necessary claim without being penalised. Remember to ask what the excess on the policy is. This usually starts around £50.
Just make sure that the company you do chose to move you have the right insurance in place. Accidents can and do happen, no-one is perfect at the end of the day, and a professional reputable company will be more than happy to put things right should something untoward happen.
If you are happy to pay the least cost price for your move, and in the event that something of high value gets broken, for instance, your 50″ TV, just bear in mind you may not be fully insured. If that cheaper company has not got the right insurance in place to compensate you it could end up being a lot more expensive in the long run. We go by the motto that “Cheap Is Not Always Good, and Good Is Not Always Cheap” And that’s not just for removals, but anything in general really.
